The Blue Voodoo Series is possibly the most popular line of Crate Amplifiers ever made. The Blue Voodoos come in a variety of sizes which included the 50 watt, 60 watt, 120 watt, 150 watt, and the massive 300 watt model. Arguably the most popular of these models is the BV120H model.
The BV120 is a class AB all tube amp that came stock with four 6L6/5881 Groove Tubes and four 12ax7 preamp tubes. This amp is a great deal for the price range, producing sparkling cleans, and raunchy growling gain. The 120 watts of power was more than enough to power a full stack as well. It also featured dual reverb, line out, and a switchable effects loop.
The foot switchable two channel 60 watt version is also a popular, very affordable amp. It has a clean channel with standard EQ and volume, and a gain channel with standard EQ, gain, and volume. The amp also features presence and reverb controls. It came stock with 5881 power amp tubes but can also run EL34s as well as auto bias, a very cool feature! This amp also gives you the ability to plug into your favorite cabinet since it can switch to power a 4, 8, or 16 ohm cab.
The Blue Voodoo series is a great way to get into classic tube tone and power, at a very friendly price. These amps were built for the road as well, with a thick rugged tolex that came in blue, black, and red. And since it’s from Crate, you know it’s going to last a long, long time.
